Heart and Cross

In Heart and Cross, Scottish author, Mrs. Oliphant, takes an interesting stand on women's issues. It is a story about Clare Crofton, with a content married life. It is gradually revealed that her happiness is superficial, and on a deeper level, she is dissatisfied. The reason behind Clare's misery is that she believes her life isn't as exciting as her two friends, who are involved in bold adventures in India and are actively taking part in the first wave of the feminist movement.
