I started my self-therapy in spring 2023, only to realise a year later: I had reached my goal. I wanted to get rid of the mental pain and I got rid of it. It all started with puzzles on my touchscreen computer. Dealing with your own shame is painful. On the other hand, doing puzzles can be very satisfying, pain-relieving, as you deal with the individual pieces of the painful story while doing the puzzle. This is because putting the pieces together gives you a sense of achievement every time you do the puzzle. The stories are made up of several pieces and at the end they form the whole picture. The jigsaw puzzle as a metaphor for «biography» becomes obvious. My brain seemed to have gratefully accepted the concept of the jigsaw puzzle. The frequent puzzling provided new connections between different areas of the brain, making it powerful for my therapeutic needs.
