Historical Record of the Sixteenth, or, the Bedfordshire Regiment of Foot
Kitap hakkında
During the autumn of 1688, King James II faced a threat from the Dutch William, Prince of Orange who had brought an army to England on the order of seven English Lords. The King was in a dangerous position, and as a reaction, he authorized the raising of new battalions of Pikemen and Musketeers. The first of these was raised by a prominent veteran Scottish soldier, Archibald Douglas, and, this regiment was known as the 16th Regiment of Foot. Raised during this period of turmoil in Europe, the 16th Regiment of Foot was later called the Bedfordshire Regiment.
This historical work presents an interesting account of the services of the Bedfordshire Regiment of the British Army. This well-structured record contains several particulars about the war such as the period and circumstances of the original formation of the regiment, the names of the officers killed or wounded by the enemy, the battles, sieges, and other military operations.
