The author, a daughter of a priest and an evangelical Protestant, published the book anonymously. Her main idea was to promote the ideas of protestant evangelism. In the book, the new religious beliefs clash with the older ones. The opposition is introduced through the character of Henri, a young nobleman who is the first to discover Protestantism among his friends.
