The Winning Clue is a mystery novel written by James Hay. Enid Withers is discovered deceased and amateur investigator Lawrence Bristow takes up on a challenge to unravel the mystery of her murder. Barely ten minutes after his conversation with the clerk of the Brevord, Mattie announced that two gentlemen were waiting to see him, one of them being the chief of police. He was of the extreme brunette type, his hair blue-black, his black eyes keen and piercing and always on the move.
