This western novel is set in Kentucky and tells the story of a feud between two families; the Stetsons and the Lewallens. When the story opens, Steve Marcum is half asleep. He is one of what is left of the Stetson family and a young boy Isom is all that is left with the name Lewallen. Though supposedly over, it seems that recent events will lead to the re-opening of the deadly feud.
