This book thoroughly documents the historical and architectural wonder of Scotland, Penicuik House, an 18th-century Palladian mansion built by Sir James Clerk, the 3rd Baronet of the family. This book is of utmost importance to the preservation of the mansion itself, as it is the only surviving account that gave a detailed description of the estate, which was burnt down ten years after this book was published and was only restored to its original state in 2014.
