The following book covers the explorations done by Colonel Peter Egerton-Warburton, who is often referred to as Major Warburton. He is best-remembered today for his legacy through a particularly epic expedition from Adelaide crossing the arid center of Australia to the coast of Western Australia via Alice Springs, which he did in 1872. However, the events discussed in this book are of his 1866 explorations, where he examined the area around the north shore of Lake Eyre searching unsuccessfully for Cooper Creek but found a large river which was subsequently named the Warburton River.
