Thomas Hughes (1822 – 1896) was an English lawyer, judge, politician, and author. He is best known for his famous novel Tom Brown's School Days (1857), a semi-autobiographical book set in Rugby School, which Hughes attended. Hughes had numerous other interests, particularly as a Member of Parliament, in the British co-operative movement, and a settlement in Tennessee, USA, reflecting his values.
