UG 37. The healing of the demoniac in the Capernaum synagogue (Mk 1:21b, 23—28; Lk 4:33—37)

37:1 And straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught. (Mk 1:21b)

37:2 And there was in their synagogue a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, (Mk 1:23; Lk 4:33)

37:3 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. (Mk 1:24; Lk 4:34)

37:4 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. (Mk 1:25; Lk 4:35)

37:5 And when the unclean spirit [of the] devil had thrown him in the midst, torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him, and hurt him not. (Mk 1:26; Lk 4:35)

37:6 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority and power commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him, and come out. (Mk 1:27; Lk 4:36)

37:7 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee. (Mk 1:28; Lk 1:37)

UG 38. Healing of Simon’s mother-in-law (Mt 8:14—15; Mk 1:29—31; Lk 4:38—39)

38:1 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon Peter and Andrew, with James and John. (Mt 8:14; Mk 1:29; Lk 4:38)

38:2 But Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. (Mt 8:14; Mk 1:30; Lk 4:38)

38:3 And he came and saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever. (Mt 8:14; Mk 1:31)

38:4 He stood over her, took her by the hand, lifted her up, and rebuked the fever; and immediately the fever left her, she arose and ministered unto them. (Mt 8:15; Mk 1:31; Lk 4:39)

UG 39. Healing many sick people (Mt 8:16—17; Mk 1:32—34; Lk 4:40—41)

39:1 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him many that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. (Mt 8:16; Mk 1:32; Lk 4:40)

39:2 And all the city was gathered together at the door. (Mk 1:33)

39:3 And he healed all that were sick of divers diseases, laiding his hands on every one of them. (Mt 8:16; Mk 1:34; Lk 4:40)

39:4 And also he cast out many spirits [of] devils with his word. (Mt 8:16; Mk 1:34; Lk 4:41)

39:5 And devils came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ. (Mt 8:16; Mk 1:34; Lk 4:41)

39:6 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. (Mt 8:17)

UG 40. Evangelism in the Galilee (Mt 4:23—25; Mk 1:35—39; Lk 4:42—44)

40:1 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary desert place, and there prayed. (Mk 1:35; Lk 4:42)

40:2 And when it was day, the people sought him. (Mk 1:37; Lk 4:42)

40:3 Simon and they that were with him followed after him. (Mk 1:36; Lk 4:42)

40:4 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee, that he should not depart from them. (Mk 1:37; Lk 4:42)

40:5 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent, for therefore came I forth. (Mk 1:38; Lk 4:43)

40:6 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people, and cast out devils. (Mt 4:23; Mk 1:39; Lk 4:44)

40:7 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. (Mt 4:24)

40:8 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan. (Mt 4:25)

UG 41. Healing the leper (Mt 8:2—4; Mk 1:40—45; Lk 5:12—16)

41:1 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, there came a leper to him, worshipped him, and kneeling down to him, beseeching him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. (Mt 8:2; Mk 1:40; Lk 5:12)

41:2 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. (Mt 8:3; Mk 1:41; Lk 5:13)

41:3 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed. (Mt 8:3; Mk 1:42; Lk 5:13)

41:4 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away; (Mk 1:43)

41:5 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. (Mt 8:4; Mk 1:44; Lk 5:14)

41:6 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter. (Mk 1:45)

41:7 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities. (Lk 5:15)

41:8 Insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without. And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. And they came to him from every quarter. (Mk 1:45; Lk 5:16)

UG 42. Healing of the paralytic in Capernaum (Mt 9:1—8; Mk 2:1—12; Lk 5:17—26)

42:1 After some days he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city, and again he entered into Capernaum; and it was noised that he was in the house. (Mt 9:1; Mk 2:1)

42:2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. (Mk 2:2)

42:3 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. (Lk 5:17)

42:4 And, behold, four men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: (Mk 2:3; Lk 5:18)

42:5 And they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. (Lk 5:18)

42:6 And when they could not find by what way they might bring a man sick of the palsy with his couch in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay through the tiling into the midst before Jesus. (Mt 9:2; Mk 2:4; Lk 5:19)

42:7 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee. (Mt 9:2; Mk 2:5; Lk 5:20)

42:8 But there were certain of the scribes and the Pharisees sitting there, and began to reason, saying within themselves, (Mt 9:3; Mk 2:6; Lk 5:21)

42:9 Who is this? Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? (Mt 9:3; Mk 2:7; Lk 5:21)

42:10 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said answering unto them, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? (Mt 9:4; Mk 2:8; Lk 5:22)

42:11 For whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? (Mt 9:5; Mk 2:9; Lk 5:23)

42:12 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) (Mt 9:6; Mk 2:10; Lk 5:24)

42:13 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. (Mt 9:6; Mk 2:11; Lk 5:24)

42:14 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all, and departed to his house, glorifying God. (Mt 9:7; Mk 2:12; Lk 5:25)

42:15 But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day, we never saw it on this fashion. (Mt 9:8; Mk 2:12; Lk 5:26)

UG 43. The call of Levi Matthew to the apostleship (Mt 9:9—13; Mk 2:13—17; Lk 5:27—32)

43:1 And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them. (Mk 2:13)

43:2 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a publican, named Levi Matthew the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. (Mt 9:9; Mk 2:14; Lk 5:27)

43:3 And he left all, rose up, and followed him. (Mt 9:9; Mk 2:14; Lk 5:28)

43:4 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. (Mt 9:10; Mk 2:15; Lk 5:29)

43:5 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they murmured against his disciples, saying, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? (Mt 9:11; Mk 2:16; Lk 5:30)

43:6 But when Jesus heard that, he answering said unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick, (Mt 9:12; Mk 2:17; Lk 5:31)

43:7 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: (Mt 9:13)

43:8 For I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Mt 9:13; Mk 2:17; Lk 5:32)

UG 44. Answer to the disciples of John on fasting (Mt 9:14—17; Mk 2:18—22; Lk 5:33—39)

44:1 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thy disciples fast not, but thine eat and drink? (Mt 9:14; Mk 2:18; Lk 5:33)

44:2 And Jesus said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast? Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. (Mt 9:15; Mk 2:19; Lk 5:34)

44:3 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. (Mt 9:15; Mk 2:20; Lk 5:35)

44:4 And he spake also a parable unto them; no man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old; for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. (Mt 9:16; Mk 2:21; Lk 5:36)

44:5 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish. (Mt 9:17; Mk 2:22; Lk 5:37)

44:6 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved. (Mt 9:17; Mk 2:22; Lk 5:38)

44:7 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better. (Lk 5:39)

Events from Pentecost to second Passover

UG 45. Jesus Christ in Jerusalem on the feast of Pentecost. Healing of the paralytic around the Sheep pool (Jn 5:1—16)

45:1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. (Jn 5:1)

45:2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. (Jn 5:2)

45:3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. (Jn 5:3)

45:4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. (Jn 5:4)

45:5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. (Jn 5:5)

45:6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? (Jn 5:6)

45:7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. (Jn 5:7)

45:8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. (Jn 5:8)

45:9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. (Jn 5:9)

45:10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed. (Jn 5:10)

45:11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk. (Jn 5:11)

45:12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? (Jn 5:12)

45:13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. (Jn 5:13)

45:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. (Jn 5:14)

45:15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole. (Jn 5:15)

45:16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day. (Jn 5:16)

UG 46. The new message of Jesus Christ about himself (Jn 5:17—47)

46:1 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. (Jn 5:17)

46:2 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. (Jn 5:18)

46:3 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. (Jn 5:19)

46:4 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. (Jn 5:20)

46:5 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. (Jn 5:21)

46:6 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: (Jn 5:22)

46:7 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. (Jn 5:23)

46:8 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (Jn 5:24)

46:9 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. (Jn 5:25)

46:10 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; (Jn 5:26)

46:11 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. (Jn 5:27)

46:12 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, (Jn 5:28)

46:13 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (Jn 5:29)

46:14 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. (Jn 5:30)

46:15 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. (Jn 5:31)

46:16 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true. (Jn 5:32)

46:17 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth. (Jn 5:33)

46:18 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. (Jn 5:34)

46:19 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. (Jn 5:35)

46:20 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. (Jn 5:36)

46:21 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. (Jn 5:37)

46:22 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. (Jn 5:38)

46:23 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. (Jn 5:39)

46:24 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. (Jn 5:40)

46:25 I receive not honour from men. (Jn 5:41)

46:26 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. (Jn 5:42)

46:27 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. (Jn 5:43)

46:28 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? (Jn 5:44)

46:29 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. (Jn 5:45)

46:30 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. (Jn 5:46)

46:31 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? (Jn 5:47)

UG 47. About the meaning of the sabbath. Pluck the ears of corn (Mt 12:1—8; Mk 2:23—28; Lk 6:1—5)

47:1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first [Pentecost], that Jesus went through the corn fields; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat, rubbing them in their hands. (Mt 12:1; Mk 2:23; Lk 6:1)

47:2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. (Mt 12:2; Mk 2:24; Lk 6:2)

47:3 And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, and they that were with him; (Mt 12:3; Mk 2:25; Lk 6:3)

47:4 How he entered into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone? (Mt 12:4; Mk 2:26; Lk 6:4)

47:5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? (Mt 12:5)

47:6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. (Mt 12:6)

47:7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. (Mt 12:7)

47:8 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: (Mk 2:27; Lk 6:5)

47:9 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. (Mt 12:8; Mk 2:28; Lk 6:5)

UG 48. Healing of the man with withered hand (Mt 12:9—13; Mk 3:1—5; Lk 6:6—10)

48:1 And when he was departed thence, it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: (Mt 12:9; Mk 3:1; Lk 6:6)

48:2 And, behold, there was a man whose right hand was withered. (Mt 12:10; Mk 3:1; Lk 6:6)

48:3 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether [Jesus] would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. (Mk 3:2; Lk 6:7)

48:4 And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. (Mt 12:10)

48:5 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. (Mk 3:3; Lk 6:8)

48:6 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? But they held their peace. (Mk 3:4; Lk 6:9)

48:7 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? (Mt 12:11)

48:8 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. (Mt 12:12)

48:9 And when he had looked round about on them all with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. (Mt 12:13; Mk 3:5; Lk 6:10)

UG 49. The pharisees’ anger and the people’s desire for Jesus (Mt 12:14—21; Mk 3:6—12; Lk 6:11)

49:1 And the Pharisees were filled with madness; and then they went out, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus, how they might destroy him. (Mt 12:14; Mk 3:6; Lk 6:11)

49:2 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself with his disciples from thence to the sea: (Mt 12:15; Mk 3:7)

49:3 And great multitudes followed him from Galilee, and from Judaea, (Mt 12:15; Mk 3:7)

49:4 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him. (Mk 3:8)

49:5 And he healed them all (Mt 12:15)

49:6 And charged them that they should not make him known: (Mt 12:16)

49:7 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, (Mt 12:17)

49:8 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles; (Mt 12:18)

49:9 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets; (Mt 12:19)

49:10 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory; (Mt 12:20)

49:11 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust. (Mt 12:21)

49:12 And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. (Mk 3:9)

49:13 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues. (Mk 3:10)

49:14 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. (Mk 3:11)

49:15 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known. (Mk 3:12)
