The first thing you have to know about me is that I am an absolutely European person. But in spite of this, I adore books, stories, fairy tales of the East as I adore historical books. Stories of the East are like sweets of the East. There is something exotic, there are like nothing else in the world. The book «Ali and Nino» threw itself into everything that I like so much.
Love. A Muslim guy Ali has fallen in love with a Georgian girl Nino. She is a Christian. They don’t have to fight for their love because nobody is against their love. This story is not about Romeo and Juliet. The whole book consists of reflections of the East and the West, life, and religion. A calm Eastern fairy tale about whether the East and the West can be together. How much wisdom must the husband and the wife have to make compromises? Especially, when they are so young and passionate.
Politics. The book is full of anti-Russian moods. The First World War was shown from the viewpoint of an Eastern citizen, the changed of the government and the beginning of the red reign.
Mares. There are a lot of descriptions of The Caucasian and Muslim Mores in the book. Always interesting reading about other, especially, exotic countries, get surprised with their habits and traditions.
Georgia. There is a little part about Georgia in this book, but I was excited to come back to this pretty country even for five minutes. I can speak about Tbilisi and the whole Georgia for hours… but this is a different story...
P.S. Do you remember the famous statue of love in Batumi? Two 8-meter statues of man and woman approach each other, merge into one and break up… again… They are Ali and Nino…
